Autumn Sunshine

Today was one of those fine Autumn days which start off misty and then burst through into a crisp sunny celebration of life. In our garden the mild weather means we still have perfumed roses scenting the air.

Our pelargoniums are still glowing red in the sunshine.

And in the shade at the end of the garden the last of the wild foxgloves keep their secrets, hoods bobbing gently in the freshening evening breezes.

Beautiful photos as usual. You've really captured that lowering sunlight that announces the end of summer and that autumn is well under way.

Very kind of you to say so.
Thank you.

Indeed lovely... but... just being pedantic... aren't wild foxgloves red and white?

The white ones are a cultivar aren't they?? :)

Pedantically, my wild flower guide describes the native foxglove ,Digitalis Purpurea as "pink, purple, occasionally white." Indeed most of them this year were purple. They are all naturally self-seeded, and have been for as long as we have had the garden. Natural cross pollination probably accounts for the variation.

Less pedantically, I used the word "wild" really to mean that they arrived of their own accord. They were never planted.

Glad you like them though!:-)

I love Foxgloves. There's something so 'simple' about the way they just arrive and flower.

I don't think they'd do well in the Sydney area, I've never seen them in the Garden Centres... I might have a closer look tomorrow when I go worm hunting for the wife's worm farm! :)
